The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG), Bureau of Energy Systems will conduct a local government workshop today to discuss the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 (ARRA). This workshop is for representatives of non-entitlement cities and townships, which are those with a population of less than 35,000 according to the 2007 census, and non-entitlement counties, which are the counties other than Genesee, Jackson, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Ottawa, St. Clair, Washtenaw or Wayne. For non-entitlement governments that cannot attend the workshop, the state will hold a one-time webcast with the same agenda, but with briefer coverage.

The Recovery Act provides $296M to implement Section 124 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005) establishing Department of Energy support for States rebate programs for residential ENERGY STAR® appliance products (those that represent improvements in efficiency compared to the majority of products in the market). States will receive formula-based funding to establish or supplement established ENERGY STAR appliance rebate programs. Federal funds, awarded from this Funding Opportunity Announcement, may be used to pay up to 50% of the administrative costs to carry out the rebate program.
